- GATEWAY COLLEGE PREPARATORY SCHOOL
Teacher Feature - Coach Bigott
Get to know Coach B! We asked Coach Bigott some fun questions in this week's Teacher Feature.
What is your role/primary duties at Gateway Prep?
I’m the Head Volleyball / Assistant Softball coach, AVID 2, and PLP10 – Health teacher.
How many school years’ total have you been at Gateway Prep?
I have been with Gateway for a total of 5 years, 2014-2017 & 2020-present.
What do you love about this school?
There’s a lot of things that I love about this school, which is why I wanted to return to Gateway. I love the community that this school builds, it starts with the younger grades and continues through the high school. There are many activities that the high school students get to do with the younger students like Trunk-Or-Treat, Easter Egg Hunts, Pen Pals, and more!
I also love the students here. I’ve worked at other traditional public schools and the students here at Gateway are on a completely different level. The students bring a different atmosphere to the school and a sense of pride in their education which makes teaching fun for me.
What nickname would be the best to describe you?
The only nicknames that I have are Coach B and Aunt Sissy. Everyone knows me as Coach B but all of my Godchildren and niece call me Aunt Sissy.
Favorite movie and why?
This is a hard question for me because my husband and I are big movie goers. I would have to say that I’ve always been a fan of the Harry Potter & Pirates of the Caribbean movies. They seem to be my go to when I need background sound while working around the house. I love the Harry Potter movies because it gives a sense of fantasy and a world that’s completely different than reality. I always say that there is too much reality in my own life that I like to escape to a different world when I read or watch movies. I like the Pirates of the Caribbean movies just because I love Johnny Depp.
One thing the students/parents might be surprised to know about you?
I use to own my own photography company where I would mostly do family portraits, but also did a little real estate photography for a friend.
Best trip/vacation you’ve taken so far? Why?
I’ve been on many trips as my husband and I love to travel so picking the “best” is kind of hard. I guess I would have to say the trip my mom and I went on for my graduation gift. We did a 12 day Mediterranean cruise with three days before in Paris and three days after in Germany visiting our family’s homestead in Dunneheim. This trip was one of the best because I was able to see so much of Europe in such a short amount of time. We still talk about that trip and plan to go back with more family and friends.
Most-listened-to artist and album?
I listen to mostly Film Score Radio on Pandora so it’s not really a particular artist or album but I do love Lindsey Stirling & David Garrett who are both violinist. A lot of the tracks from this station come from popular films like Harry Potter, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Hunger Games, Marvel movies, and Disney movies.
I’m terrible at...
Singing even though that doesn’t stop me from belting it out in the car when a good song comes on the radio.
I’m really good at...
I would not claim that I’m really good, but I really enjoy painting and photography.
My dream dinner party would include:
I would love to have sushi on a Greek island by the sea with my Papa.
I’m obsessed with:
My husband claims that I’m obsessed with Harry Potter and reading fantasy novels.
I’m most annoyed with:
Group text messages late at night when I’m trying to sleep. I value my sleep and if I’m not in bed by 10pm I get cranky.
Your favorite possession?
A framed picture of my Papa and I from when I was playing volleyball in college. He is holding my braid and has the biggest smile on his face. It’s the last picture I have with the two of us before he passed away.
What person has had the most influence on you? How so?
My Papa & Grandma. I was the first grandchild of the family and so I was always pushed to work harder and set an example for my younger siblings and cousins. I felt that I ended up walking in my grandmother shoes by becoming a teacher and marrying a pastor. While my Papa never got to meet my husband, I know he would be proud of who I ended up with and living the life of a pastor’s wife.
What’s a superpower you wished you had?
There have always been two superpowers I wish I had: time manipulation and invisibility. I always feel like there is never enough time in the day to do what I need to do or get a few extra hours of sleep and I’m a pretty big introvert, and don’t like the spot light. So being able to disappear and get a few extra hours in the day would be amazing!
