Coaching/Player Background:
Coach Rickey was an “All-District” wide receiver on his high school football team. He also played basketball and baseball. Before taking on the role of Head Coach at Gateway Prep he coached over 200 select and AAU boy’s basketball games over a six year period. Taking on a new school and basketball program in 2009, with no basketball tradition, no gym, and no senior class during his first two years, Coach Rickey compiled a 46 win and 40 loss record during his first three years of coaching the high school boys teams at Gateway. During the 2015-16 season the Gators tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in Conference 3A, District 25. Coach Rickey is now entering his eighth season coaching at Gateway Prep.

Coach Rickey remains a die-hard Boston sports fan and he also loves the TCU Horned Frogs where his daughter attended college and graduated. As founder and CEO of the Gateway Prep sponsoring entity, Orenda Education, Coach Rickey has a busy schedule. "I don't golf and I don't fish. Coaching basketball is my hobby. I love the competition. I love the game and I really enjoy working with the kids. Keeps me young", states Coach Rickey.

Tim Jones

Coaching/Player Background:

Coach Jones was recently the Head Varsity Coach at Gilroy High School in California and coached both the boys and the girls teams during his tenure at Gilroy.  

During the 2012-13 season, the Gilroy varsity boys team reached the playoffs for the first time in three years under his leadership. Coach Jones has over twenty years of basketball coaching experience.

As a player, Coach Jones was able to play junior college basketball as a part-time starter.  He has coached both boy's and girl's basketball and football for the past 20 years. He has been named "Coach of the Year" on four different occasions during his career.

Quincy Granderson

Player/Coaching Background:
Coach Granderson “Q” was an “All District” and “All Cen-Tex Team” Offensive Lineman for Temple High. He also did Weight Lifting and set several records during his high school career. He attended and played football at McMurray University in Abilene. Before coming to coach at Gateway College Prep he coached several grade levels of AAU basketball and won the State Championship. He has also coached several little league football teams over the last 12 years. Coach Granderson also coordinated speed and agility camps and worked with specific teams to develop work ethic and team unity. During his first year with Gateway he became Co-District Champs with his 9th grade basketball team, losing only one district game his first year.

Coaching/Player Background:
Mike has been coaching since 2004. The athletic teams he has coached include soccer (5 years), track (2 years), boys' volleyball (2 years), strength/conditioning (4 years) and basketball (8 + years) with the majority of those coaching assignments in Illinois before joining Gateway Prep in 2012.

Mike played Fall baseball at College of Lake County in Illinois; amateur Midwest Baseball league; pitcher for Chicago Mud Sharks and two-time All-Star with the Mud Sharks and 2001 Cy Young Award winner

Kyle Verdun

7th Grade Head Basketball Coach

Coaching/Player Background:
Kyle was a 4-A state champion in the 400 meters while on his way to earning "Male Athlete of the Year" at Belton High School in 1999. He is still the current record holder at Belton High for the 100, 200, 400, sprint medley and distant medley relay earning him the "Tiger Legacy Award."

He received a full track scholarship at the University of Texas - San Antonio. Following his graduation, he coached football, basketball and track for two years, and taught 6th and 8th grade science at Woodlake Hills Middle School in the Alamo City. He joined Gateway in 2011.
