Coach Kjos was the High School Player of the Year in 1991 in his home state of Minnesota. He was a 4-year letterman for the University of Texas Longhorn baseball team, and earned All-Conference honors and the "Most Valuable Player Award" during the Southwest Conference Tournament in 1994. He made two appearances with the team at the College World Series in Omaha.

Ryan was drafted by the Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics and played through the AAA level with the Oakland A's.

He has 12 years experience coaching select baseball teams, including two Elite 24 World Series appearances. He is the founder of Triple Play Sportsplex in Georgetown. He also is a featured presenter at Central Texas sports medicine conferences on the topic of "Biomechanics of the Throwing Motion."

Ryan coached the Gators to their first District 26-A title in 2014 guiding the team to a perfect 13-0 record in district play. The team lost to Weiner in the regional playoffs. In 2015, he guided his team to a second place finish in District 25-3A. The Gators advanced to the regional playoffs before falling to district foe Lago Vista High School in an nail-biting best of 3 series.
